| CVE-2023-53440(opens NVD record) | High | 7.8 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nilfs2: fix sysfs interface lifetime The current nilfs2 sysfs support has issues with the timing of creation and deletion of sysfs entries, potentially leading to null pointer dereferences, use-after-free, and lockdep warnings. Some of the sysfs attributes for nilfs2 per-filesystem instance refer to metadata file "cpfile", "sufile", or "dat", but nilfs_sysfs_create_device_group that creates those attributes is executed before the inodes for these metadata files are loaded, and nilfs_sysfs_delete_device_group which deletes these sysfs entries is called after releasing their metadata file inodes. Therefore, access to some of these sysfs attributes may occur outside of the lifetime of these metadata files, resulting in inode NULL pointer dereferences or use-after-free. In addition, the call to nilfs_sysfs_create_device_group() is made during the locking period of the semaphore "ns_sem" of nilfs object, so the shrinker call caused by the memory allocation for the sysfs entries, may derive lock dependencies "ns_sem" -> (shrinker) -> "locks acquired in nilfs_evict_inode()". Since nilfs2 may acquire "ns_sem" deep in the call stack holding other locks via its error handler __nilfs_error(), this causes lockdep to report circular locking. This is a false positive and no circular locking actually occurs as no inodes exist yet when nilfs_sysfs_create_device_group() is called. Fortunately, the lockdep warnings can be resolved by simply moving the call to nilfs_sysfs_create_device_group() out of "ns_sem". This fixes these sysfs issues by revising where the device's sysfs interface is created/deleted and keeping its lifetime within the lifetime of the metadata files above. | Sep 18, 2025 |

| CVE-2023-53429(opens NVD record) | High | 7.8 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: btrfs: don't check PageError in __extent_writepage __extent_writepage currenly sets PageError whenever any error happens, and the also checks for PageError to decide if to call error handling. This leads to very unclear responsibility for cleaning up on errors. In the VM and generic writeback helpers the basic idea is that once I/O is fired off all error handling responsibility is delegated to the end I/O handler. But if that end I/O handler sets the PageError bit, and the submitter checks it, the bit could in some cases leak into the submission context for fast enough I/O. Fix this by simply not checking PageError and just using the local ret variable to check for submission errors. This also fundamentally solves the long problem documented in a comment in __extent_writepage by never leaking the error bit into the submission context. | Sep 18, 2025 |

| CVE-2022-50410(opens NVD record) | Critical | 9.8 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFSD: Protect against send buffer overflow in NFSv2 READ Since before the git era, NFSD has conserved the number of pages held by each nfsd thread by combining the RPC receive and send buffers into a single array of pages. This works because there are no cases where an operation needs a large RPC Call message and a large RPC Reply at the same time. Once an RPC Call has been received, svc_process() updates svc_rqst::rq_res to describe the part of rq_pages that can be used for constructing the Reply. This means that the send buffer (rq_res) shrinks when the received RPC record containing the RPC Call is large. A client can force this shrinkage on TCP by sending a correctly- formed RPC Call header contained in an RPC record that is excessively large. The full maximum payload size cannot be constructed in that case. | Sep 18, 2025 |

If an SMCRv2 device is found. SMCv2 based link group and link will be assigned to the connection. Then assumed that some buffer assignment errors happen later in the CLC handshake, such as RMB registration failure, server will give up SMCRv2 and try SMCRv1 device instead. But the resources assigned to the connection won't be reset. When server tries SMCRv1 device, the connection creation process will be executed again. Since conn->lnk has been assigned when trying SMCRv2, it will not be set to the correct SMCRv1 link in smcr_lgr_conn_assign_link(). So in such situation, conn->lgr points to correct SMCRv1 link group but conn->lnk points to the SMCRv2 link mistakenly. Then in smc_clc_send_confirm_accept(), conn->rmb_desc->mr[link->link_idx] will be accessed. Since the link->link_idx is not correct, the related MR may not have been initialized, so crash happens. | Try SMCRv2 device first | |-> conn->lgr: assign existed SMCRv2 link group; | |-> conn->link: assign existed SMCRv2 link (link_idx may be 1 in SMC_LGR_SYMMETRIC); | |-> sndbuf & RMB creation fails, quit; | | Try SMCRv1 device then | |-> conn->lgr: create SMCRv1 link group and assign; | |-> conn->link: keep SMCRv2 link mistakenly; | |-> sndbuf & RMB creation succeed, only RMB->mr[link_idx = 0] | initialized. | | Then smc_clc_send_confirm_accept() accesses | conn->rmb_desc->mr[conn->link->link_idx, which is 1], then crash. v This patch tries to fix this by cleaning conn->lnk before assigning link. In addition, it is better to reset the connection and clean the resources assigned if trying SMCRv2 failed in buffer creation or registration. | Sep 18, 2025 |

| CVE-2023-53378(opens NVD record) | High | 7.8 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/i915/dpt: Treat the DPT BO as a framebuffer Currently i915_gem_object_is_framebuffer() doesn't treat the BO containing the framebuffer's DPT as a framebuffer itself. This means eg. that the shrinker can evict the DPT BO while leaving the actual FB BO bound, when the DPT is allocated from regular shmem. That causes an immediate oops during hibernate as we try to rewrite the PTEs inside the already evicted DPT obj. TODO: presumably this might also be the reason for the DPT related display faults under heavy memory pressure, but I'm still not sure how that would happen as the object should be pinned by intel_dpt_pin() while in active use by the display engine... | CVE-2023-53376(opens NVD record) | High | 7.8 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: mpi3mr: Use number of bits to manage bitmap sizes To allocate bitmaps, the mpi3mr driver calculates sizes of bitmaps using byte as unit. However, bitmap helper functions assume that bitmaps are allocated using unsigned long as unit. This gap causes memory access beyond the bitmap sizes and results in "BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds". The BUG was observed at firmware download to eHBA-9600. Call trace indicated that the out-of-bounds access happened in find_first_zero_bit() called from mpi3mr_send_event_ack() for miroc->evtack_cmds_bitmap. To fix the BUG, do not use bytes to manage bitmap sizes. Instead, use number of bits, and call bitmap helper functions which take number of bits as arguments. For memory allocation, call bitmap_zalloc() instead of kzalloc() and krealloc(). For memory free, call bitmap_free() instead of kfree(). For zero clear, call bitmap_clear() instead of memset(). Remove three fields for bitmap byte sizes in struct scmd_priv which are no longer required. Replace the field dev_handle_bitmap_sz with dev_handle_bitmap_bits to keep number of bits of removepend_bitmap across resize. | Sep 18, 2025 |

| CVE-2023-53372(opens NVD record) | High | 8.2 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sctp: fix a potential overflow in sctp_ifwdtsn_skip Currently, when traversing ifwdtsn skips with _sctp_walk_ifwdtsn, it only checks the pos against the end of the chunk. However, the data left for the last pos may be < sizeof(struct sctp_ifwdtsn_skip), and dereference it as struct sctp_ifwdtsn_skip may cause coverflow. This patch fixes it by checking the pos against "the end of the chunk - sizeof(struct sctp_ifwdtsn_skip)" in sctp_ifwdtsn_skip, similar to sctp_fwdtsn_skip. | Sep 18, 2025 |

| CVE-2023-53360(opens NVD record) | Critical | 9.8 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFSv4.2: Rework scratch handling for READ_PLUS (again) I found that the read code might send multiple requests using the same nfs_pgio_header, but nfs4_proc_read_setup() is only called once. This is how we ended up occasionally double-freeing the scratch buffer, but also means we set a NULL pointer but non-zero length to the xdr scratch buffer. This results in an oops the first time decoding needs to copy something to scratch, which frequently happens when decoding READ_PLUS hole segments. I fix this by moving scratch handling into the pageio read code. I provide a function to allocate scratch space for decoding read replies, and free the scratch buffer when the nfs_pgio_header is freed. | Sep 17, 2025 |

| CVE-2023-53354(opens NVD record) | High | 7.8 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: skbuff: skb_segment, Call zero copy functions before using skbuff frags Commit bf5c25d60861 ("skbuff: in skb_segment, call zerocopy functions once per nskb") added the call to zero copy functions in skb_segment(). The change introduced a bug in skb_segment() because skb_orphan_frags() may possibly change the number of fragments or allocate new fragments altogether leaving nrfrags and frag to point to the old values. This can cause a panic with stacktrace like the one below. [ 193.894380] BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 00000000000000bc [ 193.895273] CPU: 13 PID: 18164 Comm: vh-net-17428 Kdump: loaded Tainted: G O 5.15.123+ #26 [ 193.903919] RIP: 0010:skb_segment+0xb0e/0x12f0 [ 194.021892] Call Trace: [ 194.027422] <TASK> [ 194.072861] tcp_gso_segment+0x107/0x540 [ 194.082031] inet_gso_segment+0x15c/0x3d0 [ 194.090783] skb_mac_gso_segment+0x9f/0x110 [ 194.095016] __skb_gso_segment+0xc1/0x190 [ 194.103131] netem_enqueue+0x290/0xb10 [sch_netem] [ 194.107071] dev_qdisc_enqueue+0x16/0x70 [ 194.110884] __dev_queue_xmit+0x63b/0xb30 [ 194.121670] bond_start_xmit+0x159/0x380 [bonding] [ 194.128506] dev_hard_start_xmit+0xc3/0x1e0 [ 194.131787] __dev_queue_xmit+0x8a0/0xb30 [ 194.138225] macvlan_start_xmit+0x4f/0x100 [macvlan] [ 194.141477] dev_hard_start_xmit+0xc3/0x1e0 [ 194.144622] sch_direct_xmit+0xe3/0x280 [ 194.147748] __dev_queue_xmit+0x54a/0xb30 [ 194.154131] tap_get_user+0x2a8/0x9c0 [tap] [ 194.157358] tap_sendmsg+0x52/0x8e0 [tap] [ 194.167049] handle_tx_zerocopy+0x14e/0x4c0 [vhost_net] [ 194.173631] handle_tx+0xcd/0xe0 [vhost_net] [ 194.176959] vhost_worker+0x76/0xb0 [vhost] [ 194.183667] kthread+0x118/0x140 [ 194.190358] ret_from_fork+0x1f/0x30 [ 194.193670] </TASK> In this case calling skb_orphan_frags() updated nr_frags leaving nrfrags local variable in skb_segment() stale. | CVE-2023-53338(opens NVD record) | Critical | 9.8 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: lwt: Fix return values of BPF xmit ops BPF encap ops can return different types of positive values, such like NET_RX_DROP, NET_XMIT_CN, NETDEV_TX_BUSY, and so on, from function skb_do_redirect and bpf_lwt_xmit_reroute. At the xmit hook, such return values would be treated implicitly as LWTUNNEL_XMIT_CONTINUE in ip(6)_finish_output2. When this happens, skbs that have been freed would continue to the neighbor subsystem, causing use-after-free bug and kernel crashes. To fix the incorrect behavior, skb_do_redirect return values can be simply discarded, the same as tc-egress behavior. On the other hand, bpf_lwt_xmit_reroute returns useful errors to local senders, e.g. PMTU information. Thus convert its return values to avoid the conflict with LWTUNNEL_XMIT_CONTINUE. | Sep 17, 2025 |

Each thread rewrite channels's descriptor as soon as device_issue_pending is called. It leads to the situation that the driver thinks that it uses the right descriptor in interrupt handler while channels's descriptor has been changed by other thread. The descriptor which in fact reported interrupt will not be handled any more, as well as its tx->callback. That's why timeout reports. With current fixes channels' descriptor changes it's value only when it has been used. A new descriptor is acquired from vc->desc_issued queue that is already filled with descriptors that are ready to be sent. Threads have no direct access to DMA channel descriptor. In case of channel's descriptor is busy, try to submit to HW again when a descriptor is completed. In this case, vc->desc_issued may be empty when hisi_dma_start_transfer is called, so delete error reporting on this. Now it is just possible to queue a descriptor for further processing. | Sep 17, 2025 |
| CVE-2022-50355(opens NVD record) | High | 7.8 | In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: staging: vt6655: fix some erroneous memory clean-up loops In some initialization functions of this driver, memory is allocated with 'i' acting as an index variable and increasing from 0. The commit in "Fixes" introduces some clean-up codes in case of allocation failure, which free memory in reverse order with 'i' decreasing to 0. However, there are some problems: - The case i=0 is left out. Thus memory is leaked. - In case memory allocation fails right from the start, the memory freeing loops will start with i=-1 and invalid memory locations will be accessed. One of these loops has been fixed in commit c8ff91535880 ("staging: vt6655: fix potential memory leak"). Fix the remaining erroneous loops. | Sep 17, 2025 |
